Baseball is officially underway for the 2026 season as seven spring training games kicked-off on Friday. Saturday, the rest of the league, including the New York Mets began their respective Grapefruit and Cactus’ league openers.
The Mets on Saturday dropped their spring training opener, 2-1, to the Miami Marlins at Clover Park. No big deal, as it’s called “training” for a reason, with most starters not seeing much playing time. That will ramp up as we get closer to Opening Day.
However, isn’t it absolutely wonderful to have baseball back? As we know Opening Day to kickoff the regular season is the real season-opener, but spring training exhibition games are second.
The Mets’ season starts on March 26 at Citi Field against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
I have always said Opening Day should be a national holiday, jokingly, of course.
See, the first spring training game for your team symbolizes the beginning of turning the page to a brand-new chapter.
